Frequently Asked Questions

What is CloudKit Explorer?
It's a native macOS app for browsing and editing the data inside your CloudKit containers, powered by Apple's CloudKit Web Services API.
How do I connect to a container?
Add your container identifier and a CloudKit Server-to-Server key (a .p8 file generated in the CloudKit Dashboard). The app uses it to sign requests sent directly to Apple's CloudKit API.
Where are my keys and credentials stored?
Your Server-to-Server keys and web authentication tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac. They never leave your device except to authenticate directly with Apple.
Can I work with Production data?
Yes. You can switch between the Development and Production environments. A warning badge appears whenever you're operating against Production so you don't make changes by accident.
Can I edit records, not just view them?
Yes. Records can be edited inline using field-specific editors for text, integers, dates, references, and assets. Each record reports its own save errors so you always know what happened.
Does CloudKit Explorer collect any of my data?
No. There is no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party servers. The app communicates only with api.apple-cloudkit.com.
